CARSON CITY–Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) this week announced the resignation of Vincent Solis, who has served for the past three years as president of Western Nevada College. Solis was named the next president of Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, Texas, his home state.

Solis’ resignation is effective Dec. 31 and he’ll start his new job in Texas in January.

“I made this decision based on the opportunity to serve my home state of Texas and in consideration of my family needs,” Solis said in a statement.

Since his start at WNC in May 2018, Solis has supported the growth of numerous programs. NSHE listed some of his successes, including:

  • Launching a food and hygiene pantry on campus.
  • Increasing high school student dual enrollment by 131% and overall enrollment by 6%.
  • Improving diversity by increasing Native American enrollment by 22% and becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution, to bring total enrollment of students of color to 36%.
  • Leading several capital projects including a mobile manufacturing training lab for rural students participating in workforce development programs.

NSHE Chancellor Melody Rose has yet to name interim leadership for the WNC campus.
