CARSON CITY – Nevada’s COVID-19 state of emergency has ended. Gov. Steve Sisolak on Thursday signed a proclamation formally ending the declaration of emergency as of 12:01 a.m. May 20.
The COVID-19 state of emergency had been in place since March 2020 and was declared to allow the state to respond to pandemic-related challenges.
“Today, we are turning the page on the State of Emergency caused by COVID-19 and are laser focused on ensuring our recovery from the public health, fiscal and economy crisis serves the needs of Nevada’s families,” the governor said. “I am proud of the way we came together as the Battle Born State to respond to this virus and to protect lives and livelihoods.”
Some people in Nevada opposed the ongoing emergency declaration and the declarations that followed, including business shutdowns, school closures, masking requirements and changes to voting for the 2020 election. They argued the actions taken by the state were an overreach and were harming families and businesses.
The emergency declaration also allowed health care providers from other states to more easily work in Nevada and expanded the scopes of practice for others. Those workers who have been working in the state based on these guidelines will now have to get the proper approvals to continue working in state or at their expanded scope.
