WINNEMUCCA — New facilities for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts was completed in January at Winnemucca Sand Dunes, according to officials at the Bureau of Land Management. Now, Northern Nevada ATV, the group that pushed for those facilities, is working with Nevada Gold Mines to further improve the site.

“This has turned into a really great partnership with our local ATV group as well as leveraging funding from the State off-highway vehicle commission and getting the dollars on the ground,” Susan Grande, a BLM field manager said.
Northern Nevada ATV used a grant from the Nevada State OHV Commission to purchase and install a dual vault toilet, trash receptacles, picnic tables, shade shelters and information kiosks. The work also included an environmental analysis of the area.
In February, following completion of the facilities, the ATV organization requested and were granted 45 large boulders to place around the new facilities.
Extra boulders from the project will be used to improve the pollinator garden at Water Canyon Recreation Area.
