RENO–The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is recruiting for volunteers in a number of the state’s rural communities to assist with delivering food to seniors, packing food for families and assisting with a year-long survey. The nonprofit is looking for additional support in Hawthorne, Dayton, Silver Springs, Yerington, Wadsworth, Incline Village, Fallon, Fernley and Carson City.
Volunteer opportunities include:
FBNN’s Produce on Wheels program needs volunteers to assist with assembling produce bags and distributing food to seniors. The program uses a farmers’ market-style truck to deliver food directly to those who need it. Volunteers would work shifts of about 1-1/2 hours on weekdays during the day, and opportunities are available in many rural communities and in Washoe County.
Volunteers can register and sign up for individual sessions by clicking here: Volunteer Opportunities.
The Feeding our Community Survey is a project FBNN is working on alongside the University of Nevada, Reno, to gather information on the state of hunger in northern Nevada. Volunteers are needed to pass out invitations to take the survey to FBNN customers, working shifts of about two hours during the daytime on weekdays.
This year-long effort will have additional volunteer opportunities posted as they com available, including clerical support which can be done remotely. Volunteers who are interested in helping invite people to take the survey can register and sign up online by clicking here, and volunteers who are interested in the clerical opportunities can contact Vickie at 775-785-1431 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers are also needed to pack backs with fresh produce for FBNN’s Mobile Harvest program. These sessions are 2-3 hours long, during the day on weekdays and are outside, as the program operates with a drive-through format.
