UPDATE June 23: The U.S. Forest Service active fire mapping system indicates the Huff fire near Elko is 50% contained and has burned 1,471 acres. Officials expect to reach full containment today.

ELKO—The Bureau of Land Management is reporting a 2,000-acre fire near Elko. The Huff Fire began Tuesday afternoon about three miles north of Interstate 80 off the Ryndon exit.
The BLM reports that the fire started near Coal Mine Canyon Road and is moving east fueled by grass and brush. About 25-30 residences are threatened by the fire but no residents have been asked to evacuate. One structure has been lost.
Crews from Elko County Fire Protection District, BLM Elko District and Nevada Division of Forestry are working the fire using multiple engines, a dozer and numerous aircraft.
The fire cause is currently under investigation.
