RENO–University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Medicine this week released dates for a series of student outreach and rural health clinics to provide free medical services to Nevadans who are uninsured, underinsured or without a social security number. Licensed faculty and clinical community physicians supervise the medical students and the care patients receive.
Planned clinics are in Reno, Lovelock, Yerington and Silver Springs for dates from April 20 through Aug. 15. Services vary depending on which type of clinic is attended. None offer COVID-19 vaccinations.
The Student Outreach Clinics offer adult and children’s influenza vaccinations, pap smears, pregnancy testing, gynecological exams, breast exams, vasectomies, STD testing, mammogram referrals, as well as pediatric services such as head start physicals, sports physicals, well checks, sick visits and immunizations for children. The clinics also offer general physicals, blood pressure monitoring, x-rays, immunizations for all ages and lab services including, cholesterol checks and blood glucose monitoring.
Dental and optometric services are not provided.
A new Mirena IUD service is available thanks to grant funding, but Med School officials say funding and supplies are limited. Patients interested in IUD services should call (775) 391-0632 or email crystalherrera@med.unr.edu or tartis@med.unr.edu to schedule an appointment
The Rural Outreach Clinics offer blood pressure and blood work, diabetes screening and counseling, clinical and physical evaluations, adult and children’s influenza vaccinations and women’s health services.
