WINNEMUCCA – Winnemucca Sand Dunes will reopen to the public May 23 after public health and safety restrictions that closed the site in late March were lifted. The dunes are located approximately 8 miles North of Winnemucca, Nevada in Humboldt County.
The Bureau of Land Management, which operates the site out of its Humboldt River Field Office, stresses that the public should follow local area health orders including Governor Sisolak’s standards for individuals, businesses and employers, practice Leave No Trace principles, practice social distancing and avoid high-risk outdoor activities.
The CDC has offered guidance to help people recreating on public lands prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Details and updates on operations will continue to be posted on the HRFO’s website https://www.blm.gov/office/winnemucca-district-office and social media channels.
