WINNEMUCCA – About 131 acres of land in the Water Canyon Recreation Area are part of an emergency closure by the Bureau of Land Management Humboldt River Field Office, effective immediately. The temporary closure is in place to limit the spread of COVID-19, following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Water Canyon Recreation Area is located about 3.5 miles southeast of Winnemucca in Humboldt County.

The closure affects all hiking trails, picnic facilities, camping sites, and bathrooms within the Water Canyon Recreation Area, along with the primary entrance to the area and staging and camping areas that are accessed from Hansen Street which turns into Water Canyon Road.

Throughout the closure, public lands that are temporarily closed will be patrolled by BLM Law Enforcement.
