CARSON CITY — Starting on Wednesday, Feb. 19, the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City is expanding its days of operation.
“We are delighted to open 6 days a week,” said museum director Dan Thielen. “The State of Nevada has been returning services as the economy improves and we have added two part-time positions that that allow us to open Wednesday through Monday year ‘round. We have been trying to get back to these hours for quite a few years and in the last legislative session, we were successful.”
The new hours are Wednesday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The museum hours had been cut back a day in the aftermath of the great recession and has been looking forward to restoring those hours in recent years. In addition to the general public, the railroad museum is a popular destination for school field trips, Thielen said.
“This extra day allows more schools to schedule visits and we are excited to have them here,” he said.
The addition of new hours also increases opportunities for volunteers at the railroad museum.
