Gov. Sisolak Delivers Letter to Trump Administration on Recent Yucca Mountain Developments
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Governor Steve Sisolak attended the 2020 White House Business Session and had the opportunity to hand-deliver a letter regarding recent Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository Site developments to Mick Mulvaney, President Donald Trump’s acting Chief of Staff.
The letter commended the President’s decision to not include funding for Yucca Mountain-related activities in his Fiscal Year 2021 Budget, and stated that if President Trump is dedicated to protecting Nevada in perpetuity, his next step should include committing to veto any pending or future legislation that would undermine the State of Nevada’s legal standing or consent requirements.
The Governor is grateful for the opportunity to continue expressing Nevada’s strong opposition to storing nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, and he looks forward to continuing to work with Nevada’s federal delegation.

Dear Mr. President:
I understand that your Fiscal Year 2021 Budget will include no funding for Yucca Mountain-related activities. This is a welcome development in the fight to protect the health and safety of Nevada families now and for generations to come.
If you are committed to protecting Nevada in perpetuity, I recommend you also express your resolve to veto any legislation that would undermine the State’s legal standing or consent requirements (e.g., S.2917 or H.R.2699).
As a country, we have an opportunity to move beyond the tired fight over Yucca Mountain and into an era of consent-based siting for nuclear waste. Nevada would welcome your support on these matters.
